Starting to get the picture here..

YOU CAN"T DO THAT, or at least you shouldn't mix packages from the different branches, unless you really know what you are doing. you WILL break our system mixing and matching from different branches.

have you considered upgrading the system to Lenny so it will be more up to date and the proper video driver will be available ?

Is the driver available as tar packages?
any problem with installing source packages?
