I know it's all BS, but why do writers write these kinds of articles? And what do they have against Ubuntu?
From what I've heard, Linux is an open-source OS that's very stable, and there's thousands of games and applications that are free for it, and plus the OS is free. So why do people hate Linux so much?
My guess is that Microsoft is creating all of these sites to bash Linux (even though they know that it's really good) to promote their shitty Vista.
But I want your opinion. What do you think about articles like that one mentioned above?
It is just a joke, satire. It isn't Microsoft trying to slander open source, it is somebody's idea of humor. There are articles like this written for almost every topic in the world. I remember reading one about solar energy, saying that it would be dangerous to use because it would make UV light come out of the wall sockets and give us all skin cancer.
As eventually mentioned in the comments, I took it as sarcasm. I don't doubt some with a financial interest in Windows don't bad mouth Linux in blogs, but I don't think it was in this case.
After reading first words, it becomes evident that article's quality is poor, can be compared with "yellow press", and article doesn't worth reading. IMHO, phrase "The ‘techie’ magazines and the nerds who read them have been talking about it like they’d just seen Laura Croft naked." alone perfectly shows that ideal use for article would be printing it and using as toilet paper. That's because it expresses a biased opinion in "a popular" way which supposes that reader isn't really smart. Also, it tries to draw attention by using loud words in the title, and a lot of keywords. It's just like a "yellow press" newspaper - write any kind of BS to draw attention and make people read it.

I think they simply want attention (either their ego requires it, or they simply try to increse number of hits per page by adding more flames and more keywords). Or they are being fanatical (although attention scenario is more realistic). Or they simply like trolling.

Ubuntu is popular so writing any cr@p about it will bring at least some audience via search engine hits. Writing flames about Linux will also bring a lot of angry responses (just what troll wants), since many novice users take any offense to Linux personally and feel need to defend their favorite operating system. It is easy to understand, but, unfortunately, flamewars usually never end, and they are all alike.

It's something personal. Maybe they just were never able to learn how to use computer. Or didn't succeed in learning Linux, and now to make themselves believe that it wasn't their fault (in fact, it *was* their fault), they blame Linux and they feel the need to prove to the world that "Linux is bad". I've seen (read posts of) several people extremely agressive towards Linux, and I couldn't find any better explanation for their behaviour. It looks like they are trying to prove something to themselves by acting hostile towards something (Linux in that case). Maybe it's something psychological or maybe something wrong with their self-esteem. Also, OpenSource OS without commercial support is a completely different thing, and some people don't get it.

Just ignore them, and use your own opinion/your own brain when it is possible. There is a lot of people who hate something (or at least act like they hate something), are fanatical about something, are "fervent followers" of something. Trying to understand every fanatic/troll would be a huge waste of time - you could spend your entire life for that with a very little success. So just ignore them.
I read the article, and I'm a bit sorry that I did, because now I feel a little dirty (although I am better informed). The mode of speech is very reminiscent of a US shock-jock and one of their rants.
These unpleasant individuals primarily spout right wing propoganda in the most ennervating way that they can in order to get of listnership figures. It doesn't matter to what extent they have to misunderstand or distort reality in order to have something to rant against, its the rant that counts!
Bearing this in mind, if you were to consider it to be 'by morons, for morons' it wouldn't do you any harm. Although you may be over-estimating the minimum requirements for mental abilities on behalf of a listener.
Given all this would you think "heartily disliked by morons" would be a bad strap line for an OS? You can accuse me of elitism (but to do that, you probably wouldn't have not completely understood the subtlety of the argument), but that strap line doesn't seem too bad to me.
Don't think one should put too much into that particular article. I at least read it as a satire. If you go back to the home page on that site, I think its reasonably clear that not much there is meant seriously.
What gave it away for me is this bit:
Quote:
Research shows Ubuntu is originally from South Africa and was created by a Mark Shuttleworth, a former entrepreneur who made a bazillion dollars through a thing called Capitalism. Having made his money, Mark has decided that nobody else should get rich, and that is why he’s set about de-stabilizing our economy with his Linux software.
If I understand US politics right, I would have thought any self-proclaimed republican understand capitalism reasonably well...
Anyway, parts of it is slightly funny, like that bit quoted above on notepad.exe. Also slightly amusing that 3-bum made-up Ubuntu advert. Reminded me of that Nokia "connecting people" picture that was doing the chain mail round a while ago.
Anyway, looks like this site is written by a youngish male. Not too sophisticated humour, and slightly sex obsessed (see the front page). Some paragraphs here and there shows some talent though. My advice to him would be to drop most of those pictures and work more on the writing.
I doubt even M$ would stoop to the level of idiocy needed to write the crap in that article.
With talk of "..left-handed-<insert-ethnicity-here>-crackheads..", "..Ubuntu means 'we will rape your children'..", "..need to destroy your hard drive to remove it..", and "..'Homobama Hussein'.." it is pretty obvious that the article (and probably the rest of the site) is all just tripe designed to garner hits and chatter. Some folks' kids have nothing better to do.
I suspect that the writer has A) never even seen Ubuntu, and B) does indeed use Windoze.
Good for a giggle only, but a small, politically incorrect one.

Obviously satire. Like that "Is My Son A Hacker", that's been circulating for years. I'm gobsmacked (= really surprised) that anyone would take such articles seriously.
Ubuntu sucks,it's bad, don't use it,ever. It will destroy your computer.I'm not kidding!
And if you decide to use it,know that you will become a hacker and eventually you will end up in jail!

I suspect this person is a democrat just trying to make Republicans look bad. Much like this article. I didn't read it. But judging by some of the responses I would find no credibility in the article whatsoever. Who knows the real story behind this person but it's best to leave them alone. It would appear to me they just want attention. So by arguing with them you are giving them attention. Read it for humor and move along. People just need to start ignoring these idiots.
