A charging cable may not have all four pins in the connector that normal cables have. Other than destructive ways like cutting it as someone suggested in the other thread, your best way to do it would be to try hooking your phone up to a computer, and if it is Android, it will ask you connection options in notifications, and your computer will see new hardware.
