system hangs for 1-3 seconds - why?

Hi,

my machine hangs like every 3-5 seconds for 1-3 seconds and
then resumes for another 3-5 seconds and so on.
how can I find out, why that is?
top does not show any unusual process running, load average is
below 1.00 and swap-memory is untouched, ram is not fully used.

any ideas?

thanks,

Toby

Have you tried disabling different services to see if one of them is not playing nice?

Yes, that didn't really help.
Could it be a heat-issue? Notebook overheated?

Thanks

How recently has this started happening ? Has it always happened ? Did you do something before it started happening ?

It started after the computer had run for about 2 days, but it starts again even if I reboot the machine.
I didn't do anything in special, it suddenly occurred when I came back to the computer from dinner...

Try running 'top' and see if any processes are acting strangely.

Also, what brand hard drive do you have ?

There is no job acting strangely in "top"..

It's a Transcend SSD 32GB hard drive.

So it's a SSD, well how old is it ? Have you tried other distros, and if so did it do the same thing ?

No, I haven't tried any other distros, but the disc is fairly new, about a month or so..
