SuSE Linux Uninstall & GRUB

I have SuSE working just fine with XP, and each is on it's own hard drive.

If I disable the Linux HD, I am unable to boot directly to
Windows, since it says "Cannot find primary disk"

This leads me to believe that if I were to format the SuSE HD to install Mandrake or Fedora, that I wouldn't be able to access windows, since GRUB is loaded on the XP HD.

Is there a way to move GRUB, or to overcome that problem?

Thanks,

Herkdrvr

If you were to install another distro, it would create it's own boot-loader and allow you to dual-boot. If you wanted to boot Windows without the option to boot Linux, you can go into the Windows Recovery Console and type "fixmbr" to repair the NT boot-loader. You can also install GRUB on a floppy and use the floppy to boot into other distros.

you have multiple choices with 2 drives

bios boot to xp and xp ntloader in mbr then chainload to linux where grub in installed on a partition
bios boot to xp and grub in mbr chainloads xp
bios boot to linux and grub in its mbr chainloads xp

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...troubleshooter

i think you are saying bios order is xp with grub in mbr?

2) I believe in having boot disks so by all means put ntloader back into your first drive mbr and test it then install linux on the other drive and you can put grub back into the first mbr like this

assuming mandrake install to drive 2
open terminal
su and root passwd
grub
root (hd1,0) # your mandrake /boot partition
setup (hd0) # your xp mbr
quit
