What is the diffarance between yum and RHN subscription ?

Is it enough to use yum so that my RH machines will be updated ?

YUM doesnt jump up and down flashing an annoying red when a update is available.

i tried RHN once and got horribly burned.. destroyed by system, so i never trusted it again.

apt-get beats em both. But yum is better than RHN. Disable rhn competely unless it's required by your administrator. If you feel you must have it then change the default servers and use a mirror so it at least updates a bit faster.

Yum uses a lot more cpu than apt-get. If at anyway possible use apt-get or else yum.

Yes, they both upgrade your packages and system. But you should configure yum to download from some mirrors near you and use this one. It's very easy to install other programs too. Also you can use apt-get. That's another great tool.

Download the yum.conf file from fedorafaq.org and replace /etc/yum.conf with it. You will find it under the question how do i find software for fedora.

Now yum will use mirrors without u having to configure it urself
