reading partitions

I tried to make my other partitions readable from slack. Works fine as root but as user I get an error. As user I can see locks on the dirs I use for the drives so I guess I have to alter the permissions. I can't figure out how. This is my fstab:

/dev/hda1 /mnt/winc ntfs user 0 0
/dev/hda2 /mnt/wind ntfs user 0 0
/dev/hda3 /mnt/wine ntfs user 0 0
/dev/hda4 /mnt/winf ntfs user 0 0
/dev/hda5 /mnt/wing ntfs user 0 0
/dev/hda6 /mnt/winh ntfs user 0 0
/dev/hdb7 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb1 / reiserfs defaults 1 1
/dev/hdb5 /usr/local reiserfs defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb6 /home reiserfs defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb8 /mnt/deb1 reiserfs user 0 0
/dev/hdb9 /mnt/deb2 reiserfs user 0 0
/dev/hdb10 /mnt/deb3 reiserfs user 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hdd /cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0
/dev/sr0 /cdwriter auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0

I'd like to be able to read the win partitions and the Debian partitions as a user and not only as root. Any clues?

try using the umask option.

for your ntfs partitions you'll prolly want:

/dev/hda1 /mnt/winc ntfs user,umask=0222 0 0

umask=0222 -> r-x - r-x - r-x
since writing to ntfs partitions is not advisable

basically for umask (these are prolly the digits you'll want to use most):

0 = rwx
2 = r-x
7 = ---

i don't know why the format for umask is 0XXX, though

Thanx, I'll try that after getting home from work!
