I've got a Win2K box on my LAN. How can I "tap" into that box? I want to see if I can get into it. Everyone always says Win boxes are so easy to get into. I want to try and find out for myself. Also, what is Telnet? How is it used in Linux?
I don't know how you'd wanna try and break into your 2k box. I suppose you'd wanna probe the computer for an open or accesable port that you could use as an entry point. As for Telnet, it's a way to gain access to a remote system or network via the internet. I used to use telnet to get into bulletin boards that would have cost me mucho in long distance if I had to dial-in.
Well I've been playing with it. I tried to Telnet to my IP, I got my MediaOne warning page. But I don't know what the name and password is. I used the only name/password I've gotten from them (needed when I setup my email clients) but that didn't work. Pretty neat though.
Telnet is handy for accessing things over a private network.
Any machine on the internet should not use telnet. Anyone lisyening on the network can get your password when you log in to it over the internet or public network.
hacking into a windows box is not easy unless you know how to do it, and there are plenty of people who already know how.
