I need to copy thousands of small files from my linux file system to a 250GB usb disk, formatted in FAT32 so it can be read in both linux and windows.
My test directory is about 7GB. I tried the following commands but I eventually get a 'No space left on device' error each time. According to df, there is 244GB free on the usb disk so I'm not sure why this is happening.
Attempt 1:
Code:
[soku@new-host-2 ~]$ tar -cS test/ | tar -C /media/usbdisk/ -x
tar: test/7/tds/11-27-03-run50/11-27-03-run51.txt: Cannot open: No space left on device
tar: test/7/tds/11-27-03-run50/11-27-03-run52.txt: Cannot open: No space left on device
...
Messages like this repeat until I CTRL-C to quit.
Attempt 2:
Code:
soku@new-host-2 ~]$ pax -rw test/ /media/usbdisk/
pax: Unable to create /media/usbdisk/test/7/tds/11-27-03-run50/11-27-03-run51.txt <No space left on device>
pax: Unable to create /media/usbdisk/test/7/tds/11-27-03-run50/11-27-03-run52.txt <No space left on device>
...
Messages like this repeat until I CTRL-C to quit.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong or suggestions on an alternative way to accomplish my task? Thanks for any input!
