Thumbs down PCLinux 2011 KDE recent updates broke the GUI desktop, so it boots to run level 3 now

I have a multi-boot system with XP and several Linux, and PCLinux 2010 KDE recent updates broke the GUI desktop, so that now it will only boot to run level 3, (console login multi-user text mode). Here is the newly updated kernel it installed; vmlinuz-2.6.33.7-pclos6.bfs, with the same kernel number matching initial ram disk .img file. Why does it have a ".bfs" at the end, did PCLinux make some major change ? Also I have been using a nvidia display driver which has worked fine, so how can I fix the full graphical KDE desktop ? I can log in okay as my user or as root in the console to run commands. The title should read as; PCLinux 2010 not 2011, my error.

I checked the PCLinux forums and this issue is real common for the people running and updating the 2010 version, which was caused by this; http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index...c,96300.0.html
here is my results from startx; Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.
And here is one of many forum threads about this; http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index...c,99459.0.html

Thumbs up solved

From the run level 3 console as root, I ran these commands to fix this issue; apt-get install aptupgrade, then I ran that script file to update apt, rpm package lists and so on, then ran; apt-get update, and apt-get install kdm. Then after a re-boot it did go to the standard log in screen, and booted into the KDE desktop with only a few minor issues. Then I ran the synaptic package manager (reload, mark, apply) to finish getting correct updates.
