partititoning harddisk


Hi I have two partitions in my harddisk one is Mandrake linux and the other is also a linux but I am not using it...how can I just format the non used partition without corrupting daha on the other drive. When I try to partition that it gives the output.
/dev/hda is not partitioned correctly do you want to format it
what can I do ?

Are you sure you aren't trying to format /dev/hda instead of the partition (as example /dev/hda2). What's the exact command you are using to format?

You can format a partition without any danger to another partition on the same drive of course. If you want to check your partitionning first, try "fdisk /dev/hda" then type "p" at prompt. If fdisk see everything correctly, you should be fine (at least I think).
