NVIDIA DRivers on SUSE 9.1 PRO

I just installed SUSE 9.1 on my toshiba laptop(FTP INSTALL). I was surprised to see my video card working without manually installing the drivers from NVIDIA.
But it does not allow me to use 1280*800 resolution and restricts me to 1024*760 resolution. If I install NVIDIA drivers from their website, is it possible that problem might go away? are these 2 drivers different ?

regards

Anmol

What SUSE 9.1 installed was just a generic driver. If you go to yast and look at the video driver it will be nv. What you need to do is go into YAST and do an ONLINE UPDATE. Look through the list of updates and you will see the NVIDIA driver. Make sure it is checked and do the update.

You need to be sure of one thing though. DO NOT install any YAST or YAST2 updates. If you do, it will make your YAST unusable and you will not be able to install software or make any system changes.

Installing the NVIDIA driver through YAST ONLINE UPDATE works great. I have done it several times now. Actually since SUSE 9.0.
