Question Noobie Pascal Help

Hi. I am trying to use gpc to compile and make simple pascal programs. I am used to using an IDE in windows and I am unfamiliar with the commandline, but i'm getting there.

How do you get programs to output (i.e. using writeln and so on) on the command line? A simple HelloWorld will compile and run with no errors, but there is no output.

Thanx.

Pascal!!!!????? I thought that was long gone.

General answer: Unless otherwise specified, the output of a program goes to "standard output". What that is can depend on how the program is run. Example:
Suppose I write a simple one-line script which says: "Greetings, Earth". If I run this in a terminal, I will see the output. If, however, I create an icon in my toolbar which links to the script, I can click the icon and the script will run, but I won't see anything. (In this situation, I don't know what standard output is.)

I still remember it. If you know it, it's not bad. I suggest the thread:

My memory is learning to write SW in C for the original Macs (the OS was written in Pascal)

I seem to recall that Pascal handles strings incorrectly----(at least from the perspective of a C programmer... )
