Question no sound, no internet after reboot

hi everybody!

for about one week, i'm encountering the following prob: i have a dsl-internet connection and soundcard configured with yast2. both work fine until i shut down the computer. after restart i always have to login as root first, re-configure sound and network (yast2). this is quite annoying, as anyone can imagine!
i assume that the problem appeared after i accidently used the mouses middle button over a root console and pasted several lines of more or less meaningful text from the clipboard (i swear, never again...).

did anyone encounter a similar situation? any help appreciated!

grettings, xbone.

both soundcard and network device are in my /etc/modules.conf. but they don't seem to be loaded when booting the computer (i checked the /var/log/boot.msg). what can i do about that?

is there any opportunity to at least re-load them manually after the computer is started (without switching to yast2) by using a bash command?

thx Tilman

Not sure about suse

they seem to want to put there startup scripts in /sbin/init.d .

This concept seems strange to me, but have a look in there for rc.modules or rc.sound or rc.local.
You will have startup script links in the run levels too like rc2.d rc3.d and so on.

If you have an rc.local it should exec at any run level

Maybe someone with suse can help here

basically you can just modprobe the drivers in your startup scripts

after it's up and running with all modules loaded using yast2 or whatever, do this

lsmod

this will show the drivers names

so reboot and whatever drivers are not listed from before add a modprobe for it like this

modprobe nameofmodule

for the network I think you have a file called /etc/rc.config for that

if you want to try and set it up that way

the problem you need to watch for is the network needs to be up for some firewall scripts to work, depending on your setup

Where is the Internet gone ???

Hi, I have got the same Internet-problem with Suse 7.3 Pro. After configuring the ADSL part, YaST tells me that there will be an Icon in the task bar after a new login into KDE... and yes, there is. But suddenly after rebooting it is gone.

Normally it should apprear again by typing "kinternet" into the shell. This is the 'dial up connection tools' in SuSE. It tells me that I am not part i a dial up group anymore (or something). After reinstalling the ADSL part without any changes - just by clicking on ADSL configuration in YaST2 and finishing, it works again up to the point of rebooting...

There are some patches available through the software online update in YaSt2. Unfortunately this application crashes everytime after a certain update of my grafic adapter...

May be you are more lucky than I am.

Linux - have a lot of fun...
