Need to un-modprobe question

The goal is to update madwifi-ng under Mandriva 2006 free, but I am not sure how modprobe needs to be addressed in this process.

The documentation seems to indicate that once I >make uninstall the old module and build the new version, then I can just modprobe the new module. But modprobe has -r switch to uninstall specific modules. Do I need to #modprobe -r 'old verison' before I #modprobe the new, or is the -r switch refering to something else entirely?

Thanks for any help dispelling the confusion.

Remove the module your rebuilding first, I use:

rmmod <module name>

Try to unload all the modules using the one in question first, then unload your module. If it still wont unload then:

rmmod -f <module name>

Be careful this could make your system unstable if it is a required module. Then recompile and install.

I also found more (much more) recently (as of yesterday!) updated information on the madwifi.org site specifically for my disto.
