Question Monitoring Serial Ports under Linux

I am trying to find a way to simply monitor and capture data coming in on a RS-232 serial port.

We are using hardware that will 'spit out' data over a serial port that is connected to a linux PC. All I am trying to accomplish is to capture that data to a file.

Under Solaris, I can use the following...

cat /dev/term/b >> /tmp/output

I can run this as a fg / bg process, or cronjob to automatically capture the data arriving in on the serial port. I have been trying to find a way to accomplish this under linux... Redhat kernal 2.4.9-31 to be exact, but I am not having any luck. I see nothing but freeware and related items for modems.

Please help.

Thank You.
