Mandrake 9.0 boot trouble

Need a little help here my Linux OS is seeming to not boot fully. Heres the last thing I did was this.
I ran Xfree86 config, and changed the Nvidia card. Then rebooted.

Now it comes up to the boot manager, I selected all three Linux options and they all do the same After it does it's checks the screen goes black and this seems to keep flashing in the upper left corner of the screen.:

Mandrake Linux release 9.0 Cooker for i586
Kernal 2.4.18-22mdk on an i586 /tty1
Pentium3 Login:

thats all it does.

What can I do to fix this. I should also let you know I know very little about linux.

I had a simmilar problem on one of my other PCs with redhat mandrake and slackware -all 3 distros did the same thing. Basically I chose the partition to boot (both were dualed with Win98SE) and all I had to do was disable an onboard lan card in the BIOS. Im guessing that Linux was trying to use it to connect to the internet and maybe there was no time-out activated on it so it never gave up. Look around your systems BIOS and see if anything there is activated that shouldnt be.

here you go :-)

Guys I think I know your problem, because I had the same problem after installing the Nvidia driver on my new MDk 9.0 system.

First of all your system has booted up, only the X server has not started. The prompt that you see there is actually the console logon prompt. Here you can login as your self or as root. Change to other vtys by Alt-Fn.

To the get the X Server working again you need to do the following thing.
- make sure you have properly installed the nvidia driver[glx and kernel module] from source [ there is not rpm for MDk 9.0 and the MDk 8.2 rpm will not work] .
- now edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, here replace the "nv" driver with "nvidia".
- reboot and you should have your shinning new KDE 3 up and running.

I can see the Mandrake does not include proprietary apps with the downloaded iso images, but at least they could have made a exception to the device drivers.
