kjournald using 12% cpu since moved to ext3

I find today that kjournald is using 12-13% cpu constantly and the HDD light is always on. I'm wondering if this is normal?

I recently switched from reiserfs4 to ext3 on all partitions. Also I use hibernate a lot rather than shutting down completely if it makes any difference.

No way in the world.
I'd be inclined to turn the journal off, then add it again.
