I have been using LILO boot loader for academic pupose and I have found that Booting to Fedora Core 5 (and higher versions) fails when using LILO. I am able to boot into Fedora from GRUB without any problem.

Following are some of the error messages during booting :

mount : could not find file system '/dev/root'
switchroot : mount failed : No such file or directory
Kernel panic - not syncing : Attempted to Kill init.

I unpacked the initrd image and edited a line in init file of initrd.

#mount /sysroot Commented this line and added the following line :
mount -o defaults -t ext3 /dev/sda2 /sysroot

Still did not work, got another error.

mount : No filesystem could mount root, tried ext2 iso 9660

Please help

Try mount -o defaults -t ext2 /dev/sda2 /sysroot
