kernel compile problem


i am having problem in compilng kernel for ntfs support and other modules
the method i use is
make dep
make bzlilo
make modules
make modules_install
now after this no change is observed in my kernel
i have read the HOWTOs and other docs for kernel compile but of no use
my kernel version is 2.4.18
please help

Did you copy ./arch/i386/boot/bzImage to /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-custom
Along with ./System.map to /boot/System.map-2.4.18-custom?

You might do all the above with one command: 'make install' , do it after doing a 'make modules_install'...
It'll copy all the needed things to your boot dir, make an initrd,and create a lilo entry....

But personally, I don't like this command...
