Joystick devices and ACLs

Hi I am looking for a solution to a problem and someone suggested that maybe I should learn about ACL permissions. Here is my problem: a software is not detecting one of my joystick devices. I noticed that the permissions for the two that are detected has the + which determines that ACL is being used. The one that is not detected does not have this.

My question is this: what is the purpose of ACLs in the context of joystick devices? Do you think that the device that is not being detected by the software be caused by the device not using ACL? I would like to understand how ACL works too. I've read the post about ACLs and adding them to files and modifying them.

Many thanks,

Andy

ACLs set up a series of rules, superseding the familiar -rwxr-xr-x Unix-style "permissions mask." It could well be that access rules are prohibiting access to the device; I think the command is lsacl but I'm not sure. Still, how are you trying to detect them?

Thanks for the reply. I had a look at the ACLs on some other devices and tried adding an ACL to the problem device to match but as soon as I reboot the pc the ACL is removed.

The software (X-Plane 10) opens up the event* and if permission is granted it is then registered to make it available to use except in the case of the one device not being registered. Is that what you mean by how I'm I detecting the device?

I have a feeling it is a bug in the software as I have tried all the udev rules that were suggested!
