It dznt matter wheter eth0 (internet) or eth1(my lan)

hi there Linux guru,

a newbie-to-intermediate here ...

i have experienced on any linux distro :

i could make eth0 into dhcp mode .. no problem.
i could also release the ip lease .. no problem,
all by using hand commands.

the problem is WHENEVER i :
1st- release the ip (by hand)
2nd- unplugged/remove the cable
3rd- plug in the cable back again ON THE SAME HUB,
4th- try request an ip to my dhcp server, ...

then.. the network card or eth0 seemed to be dead.

no light at all on the hub.
it dznt matter is i use 100Mbps or 10Mbps hubs since
i tried on both.

few years back, i know how to "physically" turn on a network
card or eth0 for that matter --> only in Solaris (w/c is hme0)
and this is done via the manual hand command of
"plumb".

is there an equivalent is linux ??

of crse my problem is always solved ... if i reboot the
client (linux machine redhat 7.x or slackware 9)
but i dont want reboot .. wanna learn of crse on how to
"turn" the card on again .

again, linux gurus out there ... thanks in advance...

... sitting ... here... waiting....

i answered my own problem.

it's an old 3com w/c is 3com 3c905b-tx or 3c905c-tx
know as "boomerang"

i tried replaying the present card with ANOTHER 3COM
but diff model ... 3com 3C905CX-TX-NM
w/c i borrowed from my windoze box ..... and it worked

so , i guess, a simple driver issue and/or 3com models
