In-car Mp3 server

Alright so here is the deal. I've got an old pentium 166 computer layin around and ever since i got my car i have wanted to put an mp3 server in it. I've been looking at a few sites an a lot of the stuff on there seems a little more hardware oriented than what i am used to. So, i know this is probably a commonly asked question but i searched the boards and didn't really find anybody else that wanted the same thing. Heres what i need/want:

A way to shutdown the computer very quickly when i get somewhere, either that or a way to not have the thing take a crap when i turn it off unexpectedly

A way to turn on the thing (which will be in the trunk) remotely from my drivers seat.

A text LCD screen, i've seen ones for about $15 bucks, anybody have one they recommend that will interface nicely.

A Controller, blue tooth would kick ass but if it will cost a ton of money, running wire is easy so i don't care about that.

A quick little tutorial on how to write/get an interface for the player. What i want is basically what the screen of an ipod looks like when you are navigating it, folders, then more folders, then music. Highlight it push enter and it will play. :-D

Any help would be awesome guys, thanks a lot.

I'm trying to do something very similar:

I think shutdown can be simply turning it off, since there will be no HDD writing except during transfers (though I'd like confirmation on this), so you can simply use some on/off switch

Take a look at linuxdevices.com for some inspiration
