How to pause a process from Internet ingoing/outgoing ?


No firewalling.

Just reducing the kb in/out to zero for a while
can it ?

(I am sure yes with linux)

Humm, interesting. I suspect reducing a transfer rate would be related to firewall settings, but you said no firewall.

Looking at the kill and signal man pages, I found signals SIGSTOP and SIGCONT. I've never tried them, but might be able to temporary stop the application process, then continue it to get the affect of zero traffic?

I know there is a traffic reducer program as tar.gz
a reducer sthg ...
cant recall teh name, but was terrible to configure...

Let's think easy for me :

You can use a queuing discipline such as HTB or CBQ. Most modern distributions have the iproute2 package installed. Refer to the LARTC HOWTO in order to understand how to use it.
