Help! Knoppix almost boots then I get a black screen.

I just downloaded and booted Knoppix 3.4. It goes through I guess a console (?) and then it says its loading something like xfree maybe (?) and then I get a black screen. The Knoppix CD is read for about 30 seconds then it stops and I am left with nothing but a black screen. Does anyone know how to get this working? Thanks in advance for your help.

Unfortunately knoppix does this on some PC's when it doesn't seem to get the screen resolution or video driver right. I haven't found a fix.
