Help identifying kernel panic cause

Hi,

I'm having problems understand what is causing this kernel panic (see attached photo). Can anyone please give me some pointers?

Given it's saying "Kernel Panic not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt", that strongly suggests a hardware issue to me.

Keyword there is "interrupt". Check your machines hardware, like processor, memory, etc.

Thanks. Are you absolutely sure? Meaning there wouldn't be any reason to submit a bug report. I also got this other kernel panic (attached). I updated the kernel in the meantime but they do seem somewhat related.

new kernel panic

At least 99% sure, yes. I think you're right, and I would say that your latest kernel panic is highly likely related.

I don't mean to alarm you, but it seems to me like you may well have a failing piece of hardware in your system. You'll have to run some tests to track down exactly which piece of hardware is likely causing the kernel panics.

Looks like Realtek network card - more likely just a bad module; the in-kernel driver for most of their gear is way out of date and has to be replaced with one that is being maintained by someone on github.
Is this a new panic - i.e has the system worked previously ?. If so, try the old kernel.
Have you recently added a new network interface, say a wifi dongle ?.

I'm not 100% sure, but I've tested with several different linux installations, the oldest one probably being included in Ubuntu 14.04, in addition to FreeBSD 11.2. What feels like the same hang occurred on all linux systems, except for on FreeBSD, but the wifi card is not supported there, and I didn't leave it running for that long so I can't know for sure.

I haven't added anything at all, the network card is internal on a laptop.

I experience disconnects and network dropping out occasionally as well disconnect message. I've had similar issues with Realtek WiFi hardware on Linux before, this one being rtl8192e, and the other rtl8192cu.
