gnome panel messed up

My panel is messed up. When I go to minimize windows, it no longer shows on the bottom panel. It just disappears. If I do Alt + Tab, I can get back to it. How do I fix it so that the windows minimize to the bottom panel?

Right click on an empty area on the panel, select 'Add to Panel', and look around.

I did that. The problem is that when I open up an app, say, Firefox, It will not minimize into the panel/taskbar like a windows machine.

You need to add the Window List applet to your panel.
