Gnome Panel "in your face"

Hi all,

im running enlightenment on top of gnome 2 on my debian 3 testing platform. The prob is recently the gnome panel has become a bit of a pain in the arse.

it basically is "always on top" and cuts on on my desktop size when watching fullscreen video or if im playing games through cedega. obv as u can imagine this is very very very irritating. anyone have any suggestions for me? much appreciated, thanks in advance
