Gnome oddity - Several "desk guide alert"s, don't know why

Hi:

I apologize in advance to those who have seen this on other sites,
but no one has been able to provide an answer yet.

System: Self built AMD 450 running RH 7.1 (with default Gnome
install)

A couple of weeks ago, all accounts came up with the "Desk Guide
Alert" saying I wasn't running a Gnome compliant window manager.
And it kept saying it, and saying it...enough to fill the task bar.
The thing is, I'm running the default Sawfish WM, without mods.

I changed to fvwm2 on my personal account. I still get the message
every time I log in, but it doesn't fill the task bar. (Oh, and I'm now
unable to switch back to Sawfish???)

I'm content to stop the messages from piling up (it scared my wife),
but would prefer to solve the problem.

I see in another post that it's not a big deal (Enlightenment is the
only 100% WM), but why would these messages suddenly arrive
after a year?

Do I switch all accounts to Enlightenment? Can I comment out
the applet that spews the message? If so, where is it?

Any suggestions, ideas, swags???
