Gnome logins fail if disconnected from internet
As stated, I cannot login to a Gnome session from GDM if I have network cable disconnected,
or networking subsystem stopped. Windowmaker works just fine.
I have noticed same kind of behavior with Knoppix and KDM, except that in that case even KDM
refuses to start. Very irritating, especially when trying to market linux to computer
illiterate friends and relatives.
Session manager shows the following programs starting with gnome:
00 (restart) gnome-smproxy --sm-config-prefix /.gnome-smproxy-KMXpOA
20 (restart) metacity
40 (restart) gnome-panel --sm-config-prefix /gnome-panel-BdmC99B
40 (restart) nautilus --sm-config-prefix /nautilus-UkWvnN
Any idea what program might be responsible, and how to fix this... Could the reason be
security measures I have taken (securing debian manual)?
