finding cd/dvdrw read/write speeds?

i need to know the speeds that my cd/dvdrw drive can read and write at. i thought hdparm -i /dev/hdc might tell me this, but it doesn't. how can i find this out for sure using linux without doing something like googling the model number.

Timing buffered disk reads: read() failed: Input/output error
