Files moved from Debian stable to USB then opened on Windows 8 are read-only

I moved a bunch of openoffice.org documents, such as calc spreadsheets and writer documents to a USB, so that I could use them on a Windows 8 laptop. I keep getting read-only messages, and they're annoying. Is there a way I change permissions on the files using the Windows 8 computer?

These documents are related to cover letters, resumes, and other spreadsheets I used for job hunting.

I get the feeling that the document you made had some permissions attached as in OpenOffice.

Guess it is possible that you need to "take ownership" of the file on the drive too as in file permission.

Might be a read only file permission. In command prompt use attrib or from gui it is right click on file then properties. At bottom I think is read only.

Could be related in here.

Try to open the document with OpenOffice and click Tools, Options, - Security and note the status of the check boxes at the bottom; is Open this file in read-only mode checked?

yeah that happens from time to time, just open up a copy of it and you will be able to edit and move forward.
