festival; viavoice

I just installed festival and think it is pretty cool and see a lot of potential, but also came accross viavoice. Has anyone tried viavoice? How does it compare to festival.

I also had a question about festival. Is there a way it can share the sound card with the sound server in KDE. Whenever I try to use festival in KDE it tells me that /dev/dsp is in use. If I kill the sound server, then I don't have any problems.

I thought about adding a second sound-card to overcome this problem, but am hoping their is an easier way.

Any ideas or thought are appreciated about festival or viavoice or sounds cards in general.
