Do I need to uninstall one distro before installing the next?

I installed SUSE yesterday and decided I didn't like it. Do I need to uninstall it before installing Ubuntu or can I just install Ubuntu over the top? Will it automatically take care of the boot loader/record etc?

edit: I'm dual-booting with WinXP Pro.

Hello Jedi_Amara,

You CAN install two distros simultaneously, until and unless they are on DIFFERENT partitions/disks.

The installation program would automatically detect the presence of other and add appropriate entry into its boot loader. [though as far as I know, the bootloader of the second loaded distro would be the major one - no ideas about how to prevent this.]

I am not aware of any exceptions to above scenario, and have tried very few distros myself to say confidentally that all distros' installation sequence would take care of other distro

Regards
Shrey

Oh, sorry, I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I want to get rid of SUSE and replace it with Ubuntu. Since it's a dual-boot with WinXP, do I need to uninstall SUSE first or will Ubuntu automatically take care of GRUB and the MBR?

Code:
Ubuntu automatically take care of GRUB and the MBR?
hmm... as far as I know, there is no problem with installing over another distro. Recently, I installed FC3 over RH9 on a system having winXP as well in dual-boot.
I selected the same partition as RH9 was...and everything worked perfect, with no problems. Even WinXP was bootable using GRUB.
But while installing Ubuntu, remember to install the bootloader.
[Caution: I have never worked with Ubuntu, so no ideas about the distro. But if this is a generic question that you have asked, answer would be :No problems with installing a distro OVER another, and still keeping intact other OS..]

OK, thanks, that sounds fine. (Of course I know I have to install the bootloader But I know how to fix it if I forget anyway XD). Thanks very much for your help. *goes home to install Ubuntu*
