DMAR : Your BIOS is broken

Hi,

I am running Centos 6.2 on a Intel Dual Core server and i am picking up the following error in /var/log/messages

Code:
kernel: [Firmware Warn]: Your BIOS is broken; DMAR reported at address feb00000 returns all ones!
I have googled around and all i can really find is suggestions to enable/disable virtualization in the BIOS and setting iommu=soft or iommu=off in the boot parameters.

I cannot seem to find any other solution for the problem.

Other than the warning and the fact that the kernel is tainted i have not experienced any other issues.

My question is... Do i need to worry about this warning? Is there anything i can do to make the warning go away?

Thanks

See this thread: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t...ighlight-.html

It is unfortunately not a "solution" to the problem but it does discuss ways that people have tried to address it.

The long-term solution to the problem would be to update the BIOS flash-ROM on your computer if an update is available.

When it gets to say "Your BIOS is broken" it has caught the error in software, and implemented a workaround.

The thing to do is research it and complain. I found a high visibility forum in one manufacturer's site and posted a gripe there. By next day, I was on an obscure linux forum but they had somebody dealing with it who assisted in solving it. We ended up with an extra option in ehci_hcd.

If you have any clue what module(s) are involved, it's a good idea to find out the options. You can usually grep the code or read the comments.

grep -irn option sourcecode/*

Said there are a few conditions that need to be true in order to get that fault.

Simple kernel update may have that especially if you get a firmware update in the deal.

I'd look at newer OS maybe and newer hardware if possible.
