did software suspend ever get out of the alpha stage ?

I tried to get software suspend working 2 or 3 years ago
it kind of worked but it would hamburger the file system
at random so badly that even having a minimal rescue install
on another partition couldn't fix it and forced a reinstall
so is it working now
do you have any tips about using it

Sleep still only works iffy on Linux, BSD. Depends on Bios implementation of it. I've not had problems with file system corruption, but not resuming from sleep. There are all kinds of articles on the web and LQ about it. But the answer is no it's not perfect yet.

Maybe look at what was originally known as suspend2 - now tuxonice. You can suspend to swap if you prefer.
I heard Nigel give his spiel at LCA a few years back - then there appeared to be a sh*t-fight with the kernel devs re what would (and wouldn't) get merged, and Nigel disappeared for a while. The original swsusp is still there; there is a feature comparison on the above site.
