can someone please help me with installing Linux Doom please???

I downloaded Linux Doom from ZDNET earlier today. I got it untarred and everything and now I have no idea what to do. I read all the readme's that came with it, but they don't help me a bit.

I have a directory called linux-1.8. In it is the following:

README
README.config
README.dos
README.linuxs
README.linuxx
doom1.wad
libvga.so.1@
libvga.so.1.2.0*
soom*
sndserver*
xdoom*

I have tried to run ./xdoom and ./sdoom, but I get the following error:

Cannot execute binary file

Can anybody out there help me. I just want to play doom

Do you have permission to execute the file?

If you type ls -al this will give you directory listing with permissions info.

-rwxr-xr-x 2 group owner 1424 Oct 1 11:53 unixsoft

If you logged in with the right name and there is an x in the last position (as above) then its not a permissions issue. If not try

chmod o+x filename. Then run the filename. You can set it back with chmod o-x filename

Hope it helps

Unhappy cannot execute binary file(s)

:smash:

Hi, I'm having trouble running binary files I keep getting the error message: 'cannot execute binary files'. I've checked my permission status and it's set right but still no luck. I have RH 7.0 release version 2.2.16-22. The error occurs not only for xdoom but for Real Player for unix and others. Is there a utility program that I might be missing? Thanx in advance.

Just a thought, I remember something about Linux Doom absolutely having to be in the users "path", and giving the mentioned error if it was not.
Might just be a stab in the dark, but it might be worth looking at.
