boot.log

Hey,

I'm running RH AS3, and it seems that my boot log doesn't contain any data.

the /etc/syslog.conf file is configured so it will put boot data in there.
(local7 --> boot.log).

1. waht may be the problem ?
2. what is local7 ? what is the meening of local1..local6 ?
3. if my system is configured to the default run-level 5, do only rc5 is
run, or also rc1..rc4 ?

Have a nice weekend !

well, are you sure you had permissions to read that file (eg be root or whoever owns the file)? some files might seem to be empty if you can't read them..at least, if you use some texteditor to read. dunno, though...

I don't know about local1---local6, since I don't have them :P but as long as I know, the rcX files are run only on runlevel X; for example, on runlevel 5 only rc5 is run, and not others. why else would there be different rc-files for different runlevels?

Hey,

I have permissions to the file.

As to the run levels I asked because most of my systems are hp-ux, and in hp-ux if the default run level is 3 then it runs run level1, then 2 and then 3.

I thought that it is the same in linux, and then I put a file in /etc/rc2.d and I expected it to run althoought the default is run-level 5.... It took some time to find out why it didn't run ....
