binding to YPserver takes a long time

Hello
My new Knoppix hd install boots and all seems well when the boot is over but there is a terribly long delay at the point where there is [binding to YPserver......] -it takes about three minutes. I've got Linux (mainly Knoppix and SuSe) on several other boxes and this doesn't happen. Luckily, I've never ever really had a problem with the boot process. On the other boxes, this "binding" either isn't there or happens so quickly that I've never noticed it!! Do I need it? It's a standalone workstation.

I have removed NIS. Hopefully, a reboot will give me a faster boot!!
Or I'll be back!!
