artsd causes sig11 for users, not root.

My OSS sound works fine for root, under KDE 3.5.1, but each of my users gets the "artsd causes sig11" message - and no sound.

Is this a permissions issue or something?

Many thanks for any help...

artsd sucks. I don't use it... It has always been glitchy... These days with alsa you don't need it anyway... Even in the past I was happier with a stable machine with one sound at a time

I was only successful in getting sound when I switched to OSS. WIth ALSA, my machine's silent!

Used to be that way for me also, but alsa has been working well for me for a couple of years. Does need the alsa OSS api for some stuff... Did you make sure you compiled in alsa support for your card? Alsa is better than oss these days...

I thought I have this right.

But why does artsd not crash with root?

This is the same problem on a second desktop machine.

All find under root, but KDE crashes under ordinary users... :-(
