Apache startup Question

I have compiles apache 1.3.24 & all is fine. I am wanting to have this start when Linux start. I had created comments in my rc.local file as below

echo "Starting Apache webserver"
/etc/rc.d/init.d/apache start
echo "Started Successfully"

but it doesnt work at startup. This is a Redhat machine..

Thankyou

Try using the apachectl startup script. It's located in the apache /bin directory.

Then put "/{path to apache}/bin/apachectl start" in your rc.local file.

if you don't have httpd in /etc/init.d/httpd then either

cp /usr/local/whatever/apachectrl /etc/init.d/httpd

or

ln -s /usr/local/whatever/apachectrl /etc/init.d/httpd
