apache http://localhost/mysite ---> http://localhost/mysite/index.php how?

I am on slackware 10 using apache.

When I type
http://localhost/mysite
in my browser it show me

Code:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /mysite/ on this server.

Apache/1.3.31 Server at darkstar.imranimtiaz.com Port 80
and when I type
http://localhost/mysite/index.php
it takes me to my site.

what configuration I have to make in my apache configuration file so that when typing
http://localhost/mysite
It takes me to my home page (i.e; http://localhost/mysite/index.php)

Its a permissions problem, chmod all you html files to 644 and your folders to 755, note all parent folders of the html folder must also be readable/accessible by the apache user so chmod them to 755 aswell

Oh, nevermind, I misread you initial question, to turn indexing on add
Code:
Options +Indexes
to you <directory> clause, also append 'index.php' to
Code:
DirectoryIndex index.html
. That should sort it.
