Annoying KDE Problem/Bug

Hi,

I seem to have had this problem for the past few years on different distros/kde versions, so im not sure if its a known bug or something stupid ive done

Basically when i open up a program from either a desktop shortcut or a menu item off the kde menu, it sometimes appears twice in the task bar, with the second entry doing nothing and disappearing after 30 seconds or so.

E.g: This happened when i open my firefox shortcut from the desktop, with the 2nd entry just timing out and closing after 30 seconds.

http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/7407/firefoxyo6.jpg

My firefox shortcut:

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Categories=Application;Network;
Comment=Browse the World Wide Web
Encoding=UTF-8
Exec=firefox %u
GenericName=Web Browser
Icon=firefox.png
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png
Name=Firefox
Name[en_US]=Firefox
StartupNotify=true
StartupWMClass=Firefox-bin
Terminal=false
Type=Application
X-MultipleArgs=false
It seems to happen most of the time just with firefox, but its also happened with synaptic, kate and various other desktop shortcuts, but as i said it only happens maybe 1 in 10 executions of the program.

Thanks for any help

Jack

I have seen this, but I have not yet gotten a grip on exactly which programs do it, and under what conditions.

What I noticed first was this:
With Firefox running, click on a link and it opens in a new window with no fuss.
Click on the icon to start Firefox (when it is already open), and it does exactly what you describe.

Now I am seeing similar behavior with other programs.

Try with
StartupNotify=false
or
#StartupWMClass=Firefox-bin
or both.
