X-Plane Sound and Control

I was wondering if someone can give me some pointers on getting sound to run and the controls to feel smoother in X-Plane. I have a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick that is working with the program, however movements are not very realistic and lifelike to the airplane. Also there is no sound working in the game. I think I have alsa sound setup in Ubuntu. I was also wondering is there anything I can do to have this program take advantage of a dual screen monitor layout. I do not hav twinview enabled. I have it setup with two screens in the xorg.conf file.

If I order it, can I get both the Linux and Windows versions or only the Linux version? How do I install the program? Is the Linux and Windows versions on the same cds? Thanks.
