You can get it from http://frankscorner.org/modules.php?...icles&secid=14

You will have to compile it from CVS but if you follow the instructions it is pretty simple.

It depends what you are playing. Wine (as opposed to wineX) is FREE and you can download rpms for that everywhere.

My advice: give wine a go as it is a lot easier to do and then, if it doesn't work well enough, use wineX.

thnaks

Isn't WineX under the GPL? Shouldn't we be able to make rpm's ourselves and distribute it for free?

i think there was a package on portage, but it was removed by transgaming. btw, transgaming (i think they ruin linux gaming) has winex under the LGPL (lesser gnu public license).

I think WineX is very worthy the investment. It's not expensive and it helps a lot running games ratter then wine and we see improvements at every release. They are not doing anything against Linux or GPL. As long as the source is available, they are free to do whatever they want with it. Plus, they are really great peoples letting it be still freely through CVS. Asking winex to be free It's just like asking ID software to make Doom 3 free for Linux.......

I agree. I paid the $5 a month for it. Not only do you get WineX, but you can d/l the gui for it, Point2Play. It makes installing games and running them very easy and no command line is needed.

I got WC3 & The Frozen Throne to run without a problem. I got BF1942 to install, but the 1.45 patch made it so you hade to switch disks all the time, and even after I switched the disks, it would not run.

It's a work in progress, but well worth the money.

ha! id software made quake 3, doom 3, quake 4 for linux and maintains them. winex is what you pay for what the other developers did not pay to make their game for linux. very unfair. thats why id software RULEZ!!!

Yes, iD software, and their support of Linux, is great. Support them, buy their games and make sure they know why.

However, the others do not wish to support Linux, and thats fine, it's their choice. How many of them support OSX ports of their games? You can choose to not support them (and tell them why) and do without the game. You could also not worry about it, get the games you want and either dualboot with Windows or use Cedega/Wine to play them.

Whatever happens, most of the companies won't care, as it's probably too costly to port over their games to such a small portion of the market.
