Unreal 2004 voice chat support?

I am trying to enable voice chat services in unreal 2004 and coming across a few problems. The microphone is connected into the proper port. I am receiving sound feedback from the microphone through the speakers by tapping on the microphone. This leads me to believe that the microphone is working. I also created an “.openalrc” file to point to the proper line devices.

Contents of ~/.openalrc

define devices ‘(alsa)
define alsa-out-device “hw:0.0”
define speaker-num 2
define alsa-in-device “hw:0.0”

With that finished I started UT2004, joined a game with a few players that also had voice chat working. When I initiated voice chat in the game, no one was able to hear me. I exited out of the online play to check the UT2004 voice chat settings. Everything was turned on and enabled. I then proceeded to gave it one more try with no avail. My specs is as follows.

Tyan Thunder K8W
Onboard sound “Analog Devices 1981B” chipset.
Geforce 6800 128MB AGP
FC4 i386 install
Unreal 2004 patch 3369-2

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
