You can in the game goto options, video, and check run in windows, or edit the wine(x) config so that the application think's it's running full screen but really isn't. Just add something like this to the config in case you want to do that:
Code:
[AppDefaults\\Steam.exe\\x11drv]
"Desktop" = "800x600"
That should do it, you can change the rez, and just add more of them with different exes for other apps too.

Did anyone get this working in Crossover Office by any chance?

Thing is, I want to get crossover but I want a few good reasons to get it. Adobe Photoshop is one attraction, along with office, obviously... but has anyone got steam working with it?

W_Load Wad File: couldn't load gfx.wad

I get this kind of error when I try to launch any games... And what is hilarious, is that my friends didn't find that file what was named like that. And that was in Windows... :/

breakfall, for me steam did install in CrossOver Office, and it just about ran... Only whenever it used the IE plugin to display, it displayed it, and you had about 5 second to close it until it crashed... So, it kindof works, maybe it'd work better for you than me.

Thanks for the reply

A month or so back, I managed, eventually to get steam fully working under WINE. I could run it, log into the friends list etc etc but I couldn't play the games. They would crash. I will consider cross over as a possibility...

Just a quick tip. I was having a number of irregular problems using cvs winex with steam. Mainly the auto-update feature and downloading mods to be installed. I seem to have fixed those problems by installing DCOM98. I hope this helps.
