Steam - Fatal Error: Failed to load steamui.so

This issue has been plaguing me during my move from windows to linux fully, and I've been googling since then to try and find a fix for it to no avail. Now I've ended up here hoping that someone may be able to help me fix this issue.

I've already tried moving/removing the steam folder & uninstalling libs and purging steam then reinstalling.

Specs:
Elementary OS
AMD FX - 6300 6 Cores @ 3.5GHz
Nvidia EVGA GTX 750Ti FTW Edition w/ ACX
8GB G.Skill DDR3

I've tried both manual install, and software center install.

Steam cannot be opened as root, if you try it will just pop up a dialog box saying 'Cannot be root'.

However when I manage to get my graphics driver fixed again I will be sure to check permissions and post back.

that sounds like it could cause problems.
if they install to the same location or use the same config files, it might be an unsolvable mess.
i suggest to purge and completely remove (simply uninstalling WON'T be enough) both versions, then reboot, then install the one from the software center.
