Starcraft in WINE

Basically I got it working for the most part, but it runs like a slug... >> My computer is 400MHz. Is this normal or can I configure it to make it go faster?

for a 400, I'd say don't expect a whole lot more smoothness, unless your gonna run it in *gulp* windows

you could always try cedega for your starcraft needs, works for me

cedega is geared more for directx games and while wine is getting better all the time, I prefer to use it for apps only. . .

what distro are u using ???

I am using Debian at the moment. Does this Cedega thing cost money, because it seems to when I tried to look for it on Google... >>

Well you can download a compliled version of cedega
HERE. . .

it's free and get the one for debian: cedega_4.3-1_i386.deb

I've tried it in ubuntu which is debian based and it works great. . .

Hi,

I just downloaded the rpm binary from ptesone's post. (homepages.nildram.co.uk )

Starcraft works more or less great with only a slight hiccup in the graphics.

I just ran the most updated version of f-prot, and the heuristics scan found a suspicious process in the wine-preloader.

Here's the message F-Prot gave me:

/usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/winex/bin/wine-preloader could be infected with an unknown virus

My hunch is that it is a false positive since I'm not finding anything about it on the internet, but I'm curious to know if this sounds familiar to anyone.

I recently came across SCL Beta (StarCraftLinux)
http://wiw.xlphp.net/sclhome.htm

I downloaded it and it was able to install starcraft and broodwar seamlessly. It ran perfectly as if it were running on windows. It allowed me to run starcraft without a disk, in a separate x session, and play multi player (battle.net and Local Area Network.) games

It is still in the early developmental stages and might not work entirely. It worked perfectly for me, so go give it a try.

Future versions will auto detect hardware, will have support for StarCraft2 (will automatically download and install it) and much more. These are just a fraction of the future features (all that I can remember).

Download SCL, run it, PLAY SOME STARCRAFT!!!!!!!

also,

I am running knoppix 5.1 with wine 0.9.12
