Greetings!
Sorry for first post asking directly for help with this.
I installed ROTT (1.1.2) from the debian repositories.
I can play the game fine, OpenGL & 600p, but there is no music.
Installing timidity (13.2-40) & freepats (20060219) does not help.
I even downloaded source code from icculus, both public and svn, and built with gcc (4.7.2) & libsdl (1.2.12), but the same issue persists (i.e. no music)
Linux kernel 3.9.5
IBM Thinkpad G40
Intel Celeron CPU 2390.065 MHz
Intel 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device @ X.Org 1.12.4 [intel]
Audio Card Intel 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio [snd_intel8x0]
You play ROTT???????????? Get outa hear! My all-time fav!!!
Okay, I bet (but, I'm lousy at betting...) it's MIDI music, see if all things MIDI are installed. Did you unmute everything in the AlsaMixer?
How did you get the game rolling???
Thank you for the welcome!
I did your suggestions...
Installed "all things MIDI" related packages, and discarded everything next so as to not have any redundant (i.e. not usable for me) packages.
I happened that just fluidsynth was all that ROTT needed. How did come??
I previously followed recomendations in /usr/share/doc/rott/README.Debian, and I did as it is told. But, just a guess, either timidity was not doing its work, or I misconfigured it some way. I guess it must be timidity uses hardware MIDI as priority, as this PC does not have midi soundcard. But just installing fluidsynth, and I have music now =)
Well, I must say then ... PROBLEM SOLVED! And thank you again!
About me, well... I'm just a NWB when it comes to ROTT. Such an obscure gem, I must say. Just discovered it while "exploring" linux game database. But I did play heretic/hexen/duke back then. Classic! Those times !!!
